In my long search for proper illuminating products, the Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand ($32) holds much promise. The truth is, I am always looking for a portable illuminating product that offers the subtle shimmer and highlight of MAC Vanilla Pigment in a cream or liquid form. This may be too much to ask. I have tried many other illuminators, including Benefit Moon Beam (a favorite, but not exactly portable) and Nars Illuminating Gel (too subtle of a sheen). When I received the opportunity to review the Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand, I was excited to test it out to see how it compares to the previous illuminating products I’ve tried. The shade I tried was Luminous Gold, but it is also available in Iridescent Pearl (a light pink).
To use the Halo Highlighting Wand, just pump the button on the end until you see the shimmery cream appear on the brush end. Gently apply and blend to any areas that need a little extra highlight, like your browbone area, bridge of your nose, or cheekbones. Blend it with concealer and you have a light-diffusing concealer that will mask those pesky under-eye circles – or, of course, you could use the Smashbox Photo Op Undereye Brightener for that. Anyway, the possibilties are really endless for this shimmer wand.
Of course, no product is without its flaws. For me, the pros of the Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand outweigh it’s cons. I appreciate the large push-to-load brush wand and flattering subtle gold shimmer. While it may be easy to overload the brush and have too much product (if you’re clumsy or not paying attention), it’s just as easy to put the cap on without being left with a mess when you open it up again. The packaging is quite large, which means that fitting this into an evening clutch for quick touch ups won’t be a cinch, but finding it in my makeup bag couldn’t be easier. Also, larger makes me feel like I’m getting more product, which is a plus.
I really enjoy this highlighting cream and I think Smashbox has done a good job with this product.
